The date was May 31st 2025, the last Saturday in May, and the Sumner County Amateur Radio Association was going to meeting up for their monthly luncheon at 11am. However the day started a bit early as a few members gathered up at a fellow SCARA members home to assist with a station upgrade. An outdated RG-8X feedline needed to be upgraded to some LMR-400 type coax. Tony, Mike and Brian assisted Tom with his upgrade. A task like this can be done alone it becomes much easier and quicker with a few extra sets of hands. Mike climbed the ladder to the roof like a nimble version of Spiderman and handled the ariel aspects of the upgrade. Tom drilled the 1.5” hole through the brick wall for the pvc pipe to penetrate. Tony would crimp the new DX Engineering PL-259 connectors on with the strength of He-Man. Brian was an all-around assistant helped with the drilling, soldering and attaching supplies to the hoist line that Mike needed on the roof. The morning was like watching a well-choreographed ballroom dance. By 10:30 the installation was about 95% complete, only requiring the fitting of two more PL-259 connectors. But with the SCARA luncheon coming up the crew cleaned up and headed north east to Edly’s BBQ.
